Location (City): Portland Oregon
Dates: May 3, 2011
Price: $85 – $165 per night with the opportunity to purchase concert tickets to
the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom, even for sold out shows
Description: On May 3, 2011 Portland, Ore. celebrated the grand opening of
the McMenamins Crystal Hotel. This is McMenamins first hotel in downtown
Portland. The building itself has had a long and incredible history since its
construction in 1911. Throughout the past century, the site changed hands and
names many times, offering a hotel (Hotel Alma, Hotel Georgian, Hotel Tait,
Majestic Hotel), mens bath house (Club Baths, Club Portland) and night club
(Club Mecca, The Desert Room, Stark Street Station, Flossies, Silverado),
among other uses.

                                                                                  14
Located across the street from the legendary Crystal Ballroom music venue,
the hotels artwork, rooms, hallways and restaurant all take cues from the iconic
list of past performers. Open since 1914, that nearly 100-year-old list of acts
includes Rudolph Valentino, the Grateful Dead, Modest Mouse, Tito Puente
and many more.

Each of the 51 guest rooms is inspired by a song or performance from the
neighboring Crystal Ballroom's first 100 years. Colorfully painted panels and
headboards anchor the rooms, while deeply-hued walls, black velvet drapery
and animal print upholstery lend a rock n roll vibe. Most rooms are European-
style, with shared bathrooms, and the hotel has 9 king suites.

The Zeus Caf offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, prepared using the freshest
Northwest ingredients. Plans are in place for a rooftop garden from which chefs
will eventually source herbs and vegetables. The caf is named after Nate and
Tillie Zusman, the locations charismatic nightclub owners during the 1950s and
'60s.

Als Den, an underground music venue named for Al Winter, Portland's
gambling overlord in the 1940s. From this very location, Winter managed his
vast empire spanning the Pacific Northwest into Las Vegas. The hotels venue
holds live music, artist residencies, pre- and post-concert performances and
more.

Original artwork by 20 local artists will be found throughout the hotel. Room
names are based on songs performed at the Crystal Ballroom.
Serving as a restful oasis in the midst of the city, the subterranean saltwater
soaking pool is available to guests during their stay.
